Gravity has laid siege on me

Ambushing eyelids, breasts, kneecaps

Hammering my back with iron stakes

Piercing the soles of my feet with each step.

Gravity is calling, insistently

She has waited too long

Decade after decade, watching, waiting

She grows impatient, a vulture

Waiting to reclaim me

Reaching with precision talons

One is a reminder, a bridgehead

Two, a blockade and an ambush

Three, an unchallenged victory

The day is approaching

Some dark mornings I see it dawning

When, despite my resistance

Head held high, tummy tucked, eyes turned to heaven

I too, like so many before

Will surrender.
